Take a punch is something every ring fighter or martial artist has to do. Only a simpleton would think that he could walk away from a karate match, or a taekwondo contest without taking a punch. In this article I will tell you how to survive getting hit.

First, it goes without saying that you are going to need conditioning, and plenty of it. This is going to be very specific conditioning, but if you are in good condition then you will know if you can take a punch. This conditioning will cover the torso and the head, as they are the primary targets in a fight.

You should concentrate on the basic body calisthenics such as sit ups, push ups, and that sort of thing. Honestly, you should be able to do hundreds of them, and with no effort. If you can do them with no effort, your body is going to be tight and taut and able to absorb punches with ease.

The head is a different matter, as there aren’t any easy exercises to ‘strengthen’ the head. But one can survive a strike to the head if they understand what actually happens to the head when it gets hit. Understanding the ‘impact process’ will enable you to take punches with just one simple exercise.

When the noggin gets impacted by a fist the brain bangs around on the inside of the skull. The trick, then, is to place the head so that it isn’t going to get bounced around. The way to do this is to concentrate on making the neck muscles stronger.

The way to make the neck muscles stronger is to place a tennis ball under the chin while doing your martial arts work out. This not only makes the neck stronger, but it angles the head forward, which is good for bobbing and weaving and ducking under a haymaker. Furthermore, when one does get struck the energy travels down the neck, instead of causing a ‘whiplash effect’ in the head.

Now, when one is doing Karate or kung fu, one should be fighting more from a distance, using the legs, and keeping the head out of the action. However, as the fight closes, as the distance collapses, one should intuitively lower the head, make it more ‘bull like.’ This will enable one to slip the punches, and to even deflect them to the shoulders.

To finish, do a lot of basic body conditioning exercises like sit ups, push ups, dips, and that sort of thing. For the head, place the tennis ball under the chin to make the neck muscles stronger. Whether it is an MMA ring, a street fight, or even a karate kumite match or kung fu contest, it’s not a pleasant thing to get struck, but with a little work you will be able to take a punch and walk away with a grin.

Don’t take a punch! Tired of getting hit? Learn to fight faster with the breakthroughMatrix Combat course. Head to Matrix Combat.

Nobody has the right to invade our house and cause us harm. When it comes down to that, I’m prepared to do everything within my capacity to safeguard my sanctuary and my household.

I have seen first hand that using deadly force to foil an assault could be a stressful experience. Even when life is on the line, I would like to avoid a scenario that will cause me sleepless nights. Imagine my relief the moment I discovered a home defense pepper spray which could keep attackers at bay.

Today, intruders are becoming more aggressive. The days are gone when homes in crime-prone areas are the only targets. So, I was more than eager to get a form of protection which will curtail a trespasser’s wicked schemes.

Obviously, my decision was not without trepidation. There was the matter of my spending budget simply because tools for home protection do not always come cheap. But, home defense devices that came in a set resolved my financial problems.

A friend recommended the Pepper Shot Tri Pack. It contains a 2 oz. pepper spray which I now always keep ready, a 1/2 oz. pepper spray with auto visor clip that now sits inside my vehicle, and a 1/2 oz. pepper spray that comes with a quick release key chain.

Because these defense sprays came in one particular package, this reduced the overall cost. Plus, it spared me the trouble of having to purchase the items individually. Instead, I was able to go get all the necessary stuff in one go.

A pepper spray tri pack not just offers home defense but also personal defense, as I don’t leave home without having one item from my set. The debilitating effects of pepper spray can render an invader immobile so that victims are given enough opportunity to dash to safety.

Even without particular training on my part, home defense pepper spray can be used with precision. In an emergency scenario, the last thing I want to worry about is finding out how to use the weapon at hand. With defense sprays, this is a non-issue.

Ami U Paterson has been training people how to use self defense items to protect themselves for many years now. There are many options, including stun guns, pepper sprays and personal alarms. He offers full help and instruction on how to use the items.

As a self-defense teacher, my work is to train people how to defend themselves. I often train my students in the proper and also effective usage of different security tools, especially people who are disabled or not physically powerful to curb attackers.

I do not just show my class how and where to buy a Taser gun, for example, but how to utilize it as well. I teach things like just how to handle a Taser in combat and store it properly, and how to maximize its potential for providing personal protection.

A Taser is a non-lethal self-defense tool that gives both long-range and also close-quarter defense. It makes use of a cartridge of pressurized nitrogen to fire 2 probes attached to 15-foot wires at a target.

The gadget will then send a strong electric current down those wires, through the probes and into the target, rendering them unable to move. Its electro-muscular disruption technology overrides muscular impulses and causes the target to fall over in pain.

The probes do not need to be shot from this stun gun and are effective even if still attached to the gadget, providing you with the ability to protect yourself at close range. All the effects are short term. They last only a few minutes and cause no long term damage to an individual.

I have utilized several different types in my training sessions. One of these is the Taser X26C. It is a high-end model that comes with a display showing battery power usage and can determine the remaining battery life.

For law enforcement, I have employed the Taser M26C. It is a variation on another model of theirs, the Advanced Taser M26, which is designed particularly for police work. Unsurprisingly, it possesses a pistol-like grip.

Lastly, I teach private individuals how to use the Taser C2, a smaller model which was made for personal protection. Finally, just as essential as knowing where to buy a Taser gun legally is knowing how to utilize one after you have bought and registered it.

Willm V Yotabba has been training people how to use self defense products to protect themselves for years. There are many options, like stun guns, pepper sprays and personal alarms. He offers complete support and instruction on how to use the products.

As a medical resident, I live through weeks which are quite tiresome with 30-hour straight shifts at a time. As soon as I return home, I am totally worn out and have no energy left to do anything at all.

My parents would worry about my safety especially since there are instances when my shift would end at night and I would be most vulnerable. So, when they provided me a telescopic stun baton as a gift, I truly wasn’t all that surprised.

They thought that a stun gun is going to be best suited for me because of its stun power. It gives off an electric shock to the target’s body when contact is made. This shock will leave the individual immobilized for the moment.

The Stun Master 2.5 million volts telescopic stun baton they purchased for me is a high voltage stun gun. At the same time, it is equipped with a 120 dB alarm that could scare an attacker off and make him think twice about continuing with the attack.

Expandable stun batons give the advantage of extended reach, allowing me to safeguard myself from a secure distance so that I need not get very close to the attacker. It is easy to use, as well. With a single push of a button, it will protract to a particular length.

When collapsed, this baton stun gun is handy to lug around and keep. Plus, using it is absolutely safe. Even if the target happens to touch me, I won’t become stunned. The fact that it can get through 1/2 inch of clothing makes it really good for self-defense.

My parents were confident about handing me a collapsible stun baton in spite of its power, knowing that all stun guns are non-lethal weapons. Any effect won’t cause the recipient lasting harm.

When I feel tired from a long shift, all I want to do is return home and rest in my own bed. I am thankful for this telescopic stun baton given that I no longer have any problems about going home safe and sound.

There are many options, like stun guns, pepper sprays and personal alarms. He offers full support and instruction on how to use the products.

Not long ago, I viewed an awful mugging in a parking zone. The poor guy wasn’t able to secure himself whatsoever. Calling the police officers was all that a few other people and I can do to help from afar. The thugs ran away as soon as they noticed a police car nearing.

Being reminded of the unpleasant facts of life, I realized that my personal safety required attention. I had simply no real ways to safeguard myself. My brother got me a pepper spray once although I neglected to carry it along when I relocated to South California.

I could not just overlook the what-ifs in my mind. What if I had reached the parking area earlier? What if those robbers had attacked me instead? With all these kinds of concerns, I did not waste a moment more before going on the net to look for strong pepper sprays.

A self-defense weapon that could bring even a brawny robber down immediately was my aim. As many hot pepper sprays have 18% concentration in order that the effects work faster and are more potent, I focused on those.

Law enforcement pepper sprays have UV dye which marks the enemy in some instances. Even if the criminal were able to escape, the UV stain would certainly identify him.

On the web, I came across a useful bit about Wildfire pepper sprays. If it came to a standoff, its 3,000,000 Scoville Heat Units could immobilize a robber easily. The carved holster keychain that it comes in is useful, as well, so it was a fairly easy choice right there.

Pepper sprays are lawful in California so buying one is not a problem for a law-abiding resident just like myself. My conscience is perfectly OK with it, as all defense sprays are non-lethal weapons. One would help me get away a dangerous scenario without dealing severe harm.

Carrying a pepper spray has given me a new feeling of confidence which I can safeguard myself. I am a lot more cautious with my environment as well and alert for indications that I might be in trouble.

Jonn P Sellars has been educating people how to use self defense products to protect themselves for many years now. There are many options, like stun guns, pepper sprays and personal alarms. He offers complete support and instruction on how to use the products.

Within this crazy world, you most likely cannot help but fuss over how to be safe in your own home considering the occurrence of crime nearly everywhere. You are not alone. There really are plenty of security threats to contend with.

These include outside forces, such as strangers who might suddenly mug you or those who plan to invade your home. From your personal privacy to the security of your loved ones, there are way too many things to consider.

The anticipation kills, too. Crimes can happen at any time of day. Standing on guard 24/7 is the greatest defense that you can have. Fortifying your house with a wireless home security system, for instance, is a convenient method to monitor activity even while you’re out.

Remember, though, that persistent burglars would try and try right up until they get their hands on your most valuable things. The best thing to do is keep your possessions inside a diversion safe. As it looks nothing like an obvious hiding place, it can secure your things under any thief’s nose.

While you might have secured your home, there are still various ways that your family’s privacy and also yours can be invaded. One way, and often the most dangerous, is via the net.

As an adult, you may not feel susceptible to the explicit materials seen on the net since you can already make intelligent decisions. It’s another story in case your kids take control of the computer. They might just click away without knowing the Web sites they visit or are directed to.

Kids especially become vulnerable when no adult is around to supervise them and provide guidance when they require it most. It is best to set up computer tracking software to make certain that you keep an eye out for your kids if you are not physically beside them.

There are countless evils to combat in this time period but, thanks to the availability of home protection tools, you have a fighting chance. The moment you learn how to be safe in your home without compromising your values, you can rest soundly knowing that you are doing the appropriate thing.

Jymes E Stratford has been training people how to use self defense products to defend themselves for dozens of years now.

Mixed Martial Arts, commonly referred to as MMA, is a full-contact sport that includes the use of both grappling and striking techniques from a standing or ground position. Such techniques incorporate judo, karate, boxing, taekwondo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, wrestling and Muay Thai movements.

An Intriguing History

MMA history begins in ancient Greece when the Olympic games were first played. Mixed martial arts competitions were initially hand-to-hand combat fights, referred to as pankration matches. No eye gouging or biting was allowed during pankration matches, but these were the sport’s only rules. Greek competitors who were successful at such events became national heroes and legends.

The mixed martial arts fighters of ancient Greece became known abroad and their techniques were imitated in India when Alexander the Great recruited Greek pankration athletes to become soldiers. He did so based on their knowledge of eight-point combat and the strength he knew they must possess to have achieved success as pankration fighters. A Buddhist monk was said to have first noticed pankration techniques in India and, subsequently, passed on what he had learned to Chinese athletes, who in turn used this knowledge to create martial art techniques such as those seen in karate, judo and kung fu.

The Birth of Mixed Martial Arts

As martial art techniques began to slowly spread across the globe, the idea of modern mixed-style combat was born. Many times, athletes who were adept at one martial art challenged athletes of a different type. The result was the mixed-style competitions that are now seen throughout the world.

Bruce Lee, to no one’s surprise, was a major catalyst in the development of mixed martial arts. The legendary practitioner designed his own style by utilizing various techniques, including boxing, fencing, karate and wrestling. Additionally, Royce Gracie, another a prominent figure in MMA history, won the first Ultimate Fighting Championship in 1993. After his impressive win, the popularity of mixed martial arts skyrocketed.

MMA fighters such as Gracie, Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock continued to gain celebrity status within the mixed martial arts arena. Through the years, the UFC’s popularity increased and eventually the organization hosted its own television program called “The Ultimate Fighter.” The exposure gained on American television propelled the UFC to worldwide recognition and MMA fighters, such as Diego Sanchez, emerged. However, the phrase “mixed martial arts” was not actually coined until 1995 when the president and CEO of Battlecade, Rick Blume, first used the term.

A Solid Presence in the Martial Arts World

As MMA became increasingly prominent, matches became a regular part of both the entertainment industry and the martial arts worlds. Sporting goods companies began manufacturing MMA equipment, such as MMA punching bags, pads and other items necessary for those in training. Since students of mixed martial arts must be trained in various forms of the sport before being deemed competition-ready, the use of quality MMA equipment is of vital importance.

The recognition and popularity that mixed martial arts sports have received thus far, both from the sports world and the entertainment arena, show no sign of decreasing. Some professionals of the sport have stated that as time goes on, more and more martial arts enthusiasts will ultimately choose to become MMA fighters. Regardless of what the future holds for the sport, no one can deny it has traveled a long and interesting road from ancient Greece to the modern world.

MMA, or Mixed Martial Arts, is a full-contact combat sport that is fast gaining popularity all over the world. The hallmark of MMA has been that, instead of limiting fighters to a single fighting style, like boxing or wrestling, it allows fighters to combine many styles of striking and grappling, including boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, taekwondo, karate, judo and any other style they might prefer, It offers fighters the opportunity to choose the most effective styles and techniques that work for them.

MMA has its roots in many different styles, such as Vale-Tudo, Freestyle boxing and other combat sports that encourage a mix of different styles. Many different promotions have since emerged that have helped to popularize the sport, the most notable being the Ultimate Fighting Championship and the now-defunct Pride, which was based in Japan. Although MMA was initially frowned upon and referred to as “human cockfighting”, it has come a long way toward becoming recognized as a legitimate sport. Throughout its history it has produced superstar combatants that helped the sport to gain respectability to the extent that MMA fighters now are considered on par with boxers and other world-class athletes.

The list of names of athletes who have devoted their blood, sweat and tears to this sport is long. Famous MMA fighters have included submission fighter Ken Shamrock and his half brother Frank Shamrock, Pat Miletich, and Quentin “Rampage” Jackson. But a few other names especially stand out.

Arguably, the very first fighter to attain hero status is the Brazilian grappler Royce Gracie. The scion of the famed house of Gracie, global proponents of the brand of jiu-jitsu known as Gracie jiu-jitsu, he exploded onto the scene when he won the first-ever Ultimate Fighting Championship, held in 1993. Trained from a very young age in the art his family had long practiced, he stepped into competition as a complete unknown who was significantly smaller than any man he was up against. He used his high-level skills in jiu-jitsu (which was also completely unknown to the audience) to out-grapple, outfight and subdue men twice or even thrice his size, such as fighter Kimo Leopoldo, to win the title and be named the first ever Ultimate Fighting Champion. In doing so, he caused an explosion in the popularity of both MMA and Gracie jiu-jitsu, the latter of which became a staple of MMA in the years to come.

Another landmark fighter who helped to change the face of the sport was the all-American Randy “The Natural” Couture. As a wrestler, the three-time Olympic team alternate (1988, 1992 and 1996), semi-finalist at the 2000 Olympic Trials, three-time National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division-I All-American and two-time NCAA Division-I runner-up at Oklahoma State University made the transition into MMA very comfortably, going on to become one the most dominant athletes in the history of the sport and only one of two men to have held titles in two different weight classes-heavyweight and light heavyweight. His emergence brought tons of respectability to the sport emphasizing the talent, discipline and hard work required to succeed in it.

Finally, one the most recognizable names of the modern era has to be Georges “Rush” St. Pierre. Born in Quebec, Canada, he had a difficult childhood during which schoolmates would often steal his clothes and money. He began learning Kyokushin Karate from his father at the age of seven in order to defend himself, and then continued training in Kyokushin as he grew up. Later, after seeing tapes of Royce Gracie, he was inspired to take up Brazilian jiu-jitsu and his fascination with MMA began. Also an accomplished wrestler, he made his debut at UFC 46, and then went on to become one of the most dominant forces in the welterweight division, eventually winning the title from his idol, Matt Hughes. He has since lost and regained the championship, and is today regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the history of the sport. His discipline, humility and levelheaded attitude are cited as being exemplary and he is considered to be an ideal role model for youngsters looking to make a name in the MMA.

Karate is not only a very good spectator sport but it is also a very effective tool for self defence. The rates of street crimes are rising due to increasing poverty caused by the global economic downturn. Therefore it has become very important to be able to defend yourself from the mugs and street criminals.

Karate places a great emphasis on deflection of attacks. Most of the punches and attacks with knifes are lunged straight at you. Very few fighters are stupid enough to attack in an arc. Therefore, to defend against these attacks, step to one side to create a sideways line towards the offender’s arm and strike back at the attacking hand. Then immediately strike at his lower body parts such as belly, lower back, and ribs. These attacks are very difficult to defend against.

Attacks on the head and facial area are a vital part of all martial arts. Therefore everybody expects these attacks and is mentally prepared to defend himself against these strikes. Your assaulter will also be expecting these attacks. Therefore instead of aiming for the head, block his attack with one hand and throw a powerful punch at his sternum. Solar plexus will be the target area. An effective punch at this area will incapacitate the offender.

If the offender charges forward at you, throw a front kick straight at his solar plexus or stomach. Use the ball of your feet to hit the target area. If you succeed to hit at the right target area, the offender will be forced to fall back in agony.

While kicking at the person who is charging at you, try to avoid hits to the groin. Due to his body’s centre of gravity, the charging person is leaning forward. A kick at the groin will make him lunge into you. You might lose your balance and fall down with him.

The beginners will need some basic training equipment when training for karate. They will need shin pads, groin guards, karate uniform, boxing gloves and head gear.

Being new in the neighborhood leaves me feeling insecure regarding staying safe. While my previous apartment had a ritzy address, little did I know that I would have to get close to skid row to go to work every day.

Transferring house is a chance to restock on self-defense products. That is if I could shop my way through an unfamiliar place, like where can I get Mace nearby? Or where do I purchase pepper spray off the Web without shelling out for delivery charges?

It has to be a defense spray, without a doubt, because this is a no-brainer to operate. No matter how daunting a condition becomes, I like knowing that I can’t soon forget what to do, as all a spray takes is to point and shoot.

Besides, protective devices do not get any more portable than the mini pepper sprays I have tried in my life. I started toting a 10% pepper spray with purple leatherette holster in junior college and have not looked back since.

Keychain pepper spray is the mother lode of comfort in carrying around. Though it fits in most any bag, this isn’t even necessary because it does fine dangling from one. When the need arises, get it immediately and spray away.

Whenever I head out camping or take a trip, a Triple Action fogger model is simply as easy to bring along and 3 times as reliable. It’s OC pepper spray infused with tear gas and also UV marking dye. In the house, I have a large model pepper gel, which sticks to its target just like glue.

A defense spray triggers an extreme burning feeling to the skin as well as the eyes. In certain cases, it retards breathing and inflames the eyes into shutting. The effects are disabling although non-lethal and temporary.

Today, where can I get Mace for use in my brand new home within lawful limits? And can these versions that I utilize be available around me? The bottom line, after all, is for self-defense to actually be on you the moment the circumstance requires it.

Albie J Sienya has been educating people how to use self defense items to defend themselves for many years now. There are many options, like stun guns, pepper sprays and personal alarms. He provides full help and instruction on how to use the items.
